Every morning we meet at 8:30am at our basecamp. There we have books, soil play, and other alternating offerings to help transition drop off through child led engagement. We then wash our hands and circle up for snack time at 9:30am with a book. All friends are encouraged to share their ideas for what they'd like to do that day and we do our best to make it happen. After snack, every friend uses the potties at our basecamp which are available all day as needed.
Our days may look different depending what our community chooses to do but things that stay consistent are connecting with the land and water around us, practicing consent culture, age appropriate conversations around social justice topics, art, music, hiking, mindful resting, and of course playing.
At 11:15pm we wash our hands and circle up for lunchtime. Our mealtimes also act as opportunities for kids to practice and develop their motor skills by taking out their own food, learning how to open containers and packaging, and packing up once they're finished. During this time, we either read another book that leads to group discourse or talk about current events.
Once friends are all packed up, we change clothes if needed, and use the potty before putting on nap diapers. We offer community napmats for friends to use. Nap time is from 12pm til about 2pm or whenever they naturally wake up. Our naptime is outside under the redwood trees. After they wake up, friends practice rolling up their nap mat and putting on their shoes before heading to the potties.
We then have our post nap meal, where friends get a chance to finish anything they didnt eat earlier while hearing a book. Typically the afternoons are when we journal, practice writing and math, or go to the playground before meeting parents for pickup at 3:30pm. Our pick up location is always our basecamp.
